Social Work and the COVID-19 Pandemic

The book, published with the support of members of the Center and the scientific co-editing of Professor Vassilis Ioakeimidis (along with Iain Ferguson and Michael Lavalette), is now available to the scientific community of China after its translation and publication in Chinese language. The translation was edited by Social Work academics from China and Hong Kong.

The book was originally published in English by the University of Bristol University Press (Policy Press) in October 2020. According to the content description by Policy Press:

As the world struggles with the complex effects of COVID-19, this book provides an urgent critical exploration of how Social Work can and must respond to this global crisis.

The book examines the ecological, epidemiological, ideological and political conditions that caused the pandemic, while also focusing on the ways in which social work in various countries in both the “World North” and the “World South” has responded. This series of case studies examines good practices and suggests ways to renew and regenerate social work in the post-COVID-19 era.

The authors also focus on social problems that worsened during the Pandemic, including the rise of domestic violence and the ways in which the poorest sections of the population and minority communities have been affected.
